"In an era in which every teen star has a stylist and a bland pop record, 19-year-old Kristen Stewart is the tough-minded, no-frills anomaly. Stewart played Bella Swan not as a cartoon but as anxious and complicated—making the predicament of being torn between a vampire and a werewolf seem … well, almost plausible. The daughter of a television-producer father and an Australian script-supervisor mother, the L.A.-bred Stewart has been consistently drawn to melancholy over flash. Between Twilight installments, her edgy trajectory will continue with Welcome to the Rileys, about the friendship between a stripper and a married businessman, played by James Gandolfini, and The Runaways, about rocker Joan Jett."

Twilight ladies make Glamour's 'Most Stylish Women of 2010'
Three of the Twilight saga's lovely ladies - Anna Kendrick, Ashley Greene, and Kristen Stewart - are among Glamour Magazine's "35 Most Stylish Women of 2010" list.
About Kendrick, Glamour says, "This year’s plethora of nominations has transformed Anna Kendrick from teen star to Hollywood big-hitter - and her wardrobe has only emphasised this. Elegant without being showy, Anna has given the red-carpet veterans something to talk about. The Next: Sandra Bullock."
About Ashley Greene, they say, "We have the distinct feeling that this Twilight star is still finding her fashion feet – her style picks include a neon-pink shift dress and a red pin-striped suit – but her experimental choices are certainly heading in the right direction.
The Next: Rachel Bilson."
About Kristen Stewart, they say, "Kristen’s punky style shocked conservative Hollywood (but in a good way). She famously teamed a Yigal Azrouel mini dress with a pair of Converse trainers on the 2009 MTV Awards red carpet – and actually got away with it! The Next: Juliette Lewis."
You can vote for these women to be the top pick of the year, also. The list includes Avatar star Zoe Saldana, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part I star Bonnie Wright, True Blood star Anna Paquin, Inglourious Basterds star Diane Kruger, and others.
Kristen Stewart fans making waves with potential 'Welcome to the Rileys' distributors
Last night, Deadline Hollywood came out with a story about the fact that Kristen Stewart's fans were e-mailing potential distributors for her film Welcome To The Rileys, encouraging the company to pick up the project.
Of course, it all started when the film's social networking got fans going.
@Welcome2Rileys was using Twitter (and Facebook) as a thermometer of interest, issuing messages such as the following:
"We are making a deal for distribution that will really rely on you guys coming to support this!!! we want to help control the release
we are using the social networking sites as evidence of a very strong desire to see this movie ALL over the world.
I told distributors that I could get 4000 people to buy advance tickets to the movie when it comes to their theaters.
I am compiling a list of people and the number of tix they would pre-buy to show them how much we all want this movie"
With the internet and film savvy of Kristen Stewart's fan community, though, things quickly progressed in the hands-on effort department, and that same Twitter page had to ask for things to slow up a bit.
"PLEASE!! you are all amazing, but please stop emailing the distributors. we got the message loud and clear. please please stop
they can't answer our emails because they r trying to get through all of your emails. I love you all. please stop the attack
you guys are animals!!!!!! those poor people!!! I know what they are going through when you all started emailing me... powerful"
Soon after, Deadline's article came out, saying:
I've learned that a slew of Kristen Stewart fans somehow got the personal e-mails of Sundance buyers who were circling her Jake Scott-directed film Welcome To The Rileys. In their avalanche of messages, twitters and texts, the Twihards are imploring the execs to buy and release the film starring the Twilight Saga heroine -- or at least get them DVDs of the pic. Among the surprised execs is Sony Pictures Classics' Michael Barker. The film is geared to an adult audience, but the filmmakers keep seeing mobs of young faces at every screening. Three buyers are said to be circling, but no word yet if they are being swayed, or just annoyed, by the email campaign. UTA is shopping the movie, which also stars James Gandolfini. No reports so far of Sopranos fans muscling buyers on his behalf.
Of course, the comments on the post were very clamorous, assuring the writer that the fans accused of e-attacking the distributors were not always "Twi-hards" nor "mobs of young faces." For example, a commentator named Erin said "Why does everyone assume that Kristen Stewart fans are twi-hards and teenagers??" As such, an update was added, saying "(UPDATE: The fans say they are adults, not teens.)."
The team was quickly coined "Rileys Rebels," among other things, and the Rileys twitter page stated that "Rileys Rebels, you amazing army!! your name made me think of "Rebel Yell" an old Billy Idol song. The lyrics totally reminded me of Mallory!"
If nothing else, the incident certainly proved that there was a wide audience available and interested in the film. The "shopping" distribution company has certainly learned that fact! Hopefully, then, they'll choose to distribute the project.

Kristen Stewart Pitches in for Haiti Relief
Her Twilight series co-stars (Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Anna Kendrick) might've gotten to do their part for the benefit of victims in Haiti in person at the famed "Hope for Haiti" drive, but Kristen Stewart was busy at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend, promoting The Runaways and Welcome To The Rileys.
That didn't stop her, though, from taking an active hand in raising funds for the cause.
According to E! Online, Kristen Stewart was disappointed that she was unable to lend a hand to "Hope for Haiti," so she and her team decided to auction off a weekend in the company of those at Sundance (including Kristen Stewart) to four young women.
This raised around four thousand dollars for the cause in one fell swoop, and, in all likelihood, it also made the weekend of those four participants as well.
Props to Kristen Stewart for getting involved in this wonderful, worldwide push to assist those who need it so badly right now.
Stewart's work adds to a wealth of Twilight star involvement in these efforts. Of course, for starters, Pattinson, Lautner, Kendrick, Rachelle Lefevre, and Tinsel Korey all participated in "Hope for Haiti." Lefevre also donated blood and made an active effort to get her Twitter followers on board for that as well, while many of her Twittering co-stars reached out to their followers to participate. Fansites did their part, and Stephenie Meyer spoke out to commend those efforts. Not to mention, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, and Tinsel Korey also participated in a little "Teens for Jeans" push to benefit those in Haiti. Finally, Peter Facinelli is doing a signing tomorrow, the partial proceeds of which will go to benefit these efforts.
With across-the-board participation like this, it really goes to show what positive influences these people can be.
Kristen Stewart Bar Rejection Story Should Be Bounced
The new Kristen Stewart rock pic The Runaways made a splash at Sundance, but it was an alleged bid to get booze that wrongly made headlines.
According to an OK! magazine item picked up and spread everywhere, the Twilight star tried to get into a happy hour at Tao in Park City, Utah on Saturday, “but much to her dismay, she was denied entrance because she was underage,” according to a so-called “onlooker.”
Along with two companions, Stewart reportedly “went around the back entrance and just wanted to hang out for a little bit” before attending the Joan Jett concert, the mag’s witness claims. But when they started walking in, “the bouncer stopped them and asked for their IDs,” turning the 19-year-old Stewart away despite her friends’ protests. “They huddled up for a few minutes, discussing what to do next and eventually left,” claims OK!’s “eyewitness.”
All of this would be (mildly) interesting… if it were true.
But this version of events, in which Stewart wanders around and looks to kill time at a happy hour, never happened.
Here’s how Stewart actually spent Saturday, a member of her entourage exclusively tells Gossip Cop.
At 2:15pm there was a Sundance premiere for Stewart’s other new film, Welcome to the Rileys, followed by a Q&A session. Everyone then went back to the hotel, changed, and headed out for a Runaways cast dinner at a restaurant called Spruce. After eating, Stewart and others went straight from dinner through the backstage door at Harry O’s to attend Jett’s performance.
The actress went from her Rileys commitment to the Runaways dinner to the concert, never stopping for drinks.
Gossip Cop is glad to have bounced this bogus bar story!

Kristen Stewart Has Taken Sundance by Storm
In the midst of an interview about her new film Welcome to the Rileys, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past weekend, Kristen Stewart’s cellphone, buried under a pile of puffy, winter garb, begins going off.
Stewart, who is dressed in all-black (sweatshirt, leggings, boots), is sitting on an immense leather sofa between director Jake Scott (son of Ridley) and co-star Melissa Leo (Frozen River), burrowing deeper in the confined space she always seems to create around her. Her head—hair dyed black in a jagged cut—is down, like a shy child. Her leg is tapping nervously.
Suddenly, she bolts upward and leaps in the direction of the buzzing contraption.
“Oh, shut up! I’m busy—Shut the fuck up!” she cries to no one in particular.
After silencing the phone, she returns to the sofa. “Sorry, Jake,” she says softly, and returns to what seems like her most comfortable stance: self-protected coil.
It is this nervous, very wired, “twitchy”—as she puts it—energy that has come to define Stewart. She is best known as the female lead in Twilight, the blockbuster vampire franchise, which has made her an unlikely star of both movies and tabloids. But with the Sundance debuts of two new films—Rileys and The Runaways, in which Stewart plays iconic rocker Joan Jett—Stewart is becoming known as something else: Indie “It” Girl.

Kristen Stewart has jetted into the Sundance Film Festival four times before, but none of the 19-year-old's visits can possibly compare to her experience at the 2010 fest. Not only has Stewart fully established herself as one of the biggest stars on the planet after two blockbuster "Twilight" films, but the actress is premiering two films at the festival and dealing with all the publicity needs such films require.
"The coolest thing about Sundance is coming back and seeing the people you made the movies with," she told MTV News on the "Rileys" carpet. "Everyone on 'The Runaways,' we became really close. Me and Dakota [Fanning] are really close. I love that she can see ['Welcome to the Rileys'] with me."
Joan Jett & Stars Rock ‘Runaways’ Party at Sundance
Rock pioneer Joan Jett played a special Saturday night set at the Sundance Film Festival in celebration of “The Runaways,” the upcoming film about her ’70s L.A. all-girl rock band of the same name that had its festival premiere Sunday night. Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, the film’s stars, joined Jett on stage.
A private reception sponsored by SPIN, Blackheart Records, Apparition, and FLO TV was held at the Interluxe Lounge just before the show.
It was fitting that Jett ignited her set at Park City’s Harry O’s with “Bad Reputation,” one of the biggest hits of her solo career. She followed with her No. 1 charting anthem “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” and her ode to self-loathing, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
The standing-room-only audience joined Jett with boisterous screams and shouts of “Oh! Yeah!” during the sassy “Do You Wanna Touch” and gave the stuttering “ch-ch-ch’s” during Jett’s kiss-off version of “Cherry Bomb.”
The audience included Jett’s former Runaways bandmate Cherie Currie, whose book “Neon Angels: the Cherie Currie Story” was the basis for the film. Jett asked Currie to take a bow and also invited Fanning and Stewart, who portray Currie and herself, respectively, to join the band onstage.
“I think they did a great job,” Jett said, while striking the opening chords to The Runaways’ “You Drive Me Wild.”

Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning at Sundance Film Festival for 'The Runaways'
Yesterday as expected, Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning (co-stars in The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Eclipse) made their way down the (appropriately) black carpet at the Sundance Film Festival for the premiere of their movie, The Runaways.
While Saturday was the day of Welcome To The Rileys, Sunday was all for The Runaways.
Before the film's premiere, there was a good deal of press done for the picture, and several interviews with Stewart, Fanning, and Joan Jett made their ways to the web. Here are a few:
There are a whole bunch more interviews available Here
Last night, multiple reviews of the film were finally posted - though screenings of the film had taken place earlier in the weekend - and they are very kind to the cast and film.
Says Cinematical, "Kristen Stewart steps out of her normal angsty girl act and nails down the punk rock, hard as nails Jett, and Fanning is equally as good with her disconnected portrayal of Currie, who is dealing with the fact that she's abandoning her alcoholic father and her twin sister Marie (played as fraternal in the movie, although they were identical in real life) to embrace a life of rock and roll." A prefacing caveat is offered, though, for some of the ladies' built-in Twilight fanbase. "this is not your sweet and innocent Bella."
Dark Horizons gave both Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning two very enthusiastic thumbs up for their work in this film. "Kristen Stewart finally breaks loose delivering a stunning performance that covers a wide range of the acting spectrum yet achieved in a way that is far from self-conscious . . . Stewart is phenomenal, a powerhouse proving how incredibly talented and multi faceted she is. Fanning is an utter revelation . . . Sexy, fragile, luminous and simply magnificent, with this role, she is raw and glorious, well and truly adrift from that childlike persona of a not-so-distant past. This is one of those singular performances that will be spoken of well and truly after the film closes."
Hitfix also gave Stewart high praise for her portrayal of Joan Jett, saying "Stewart, who, like Fanning, does her own singing and playing, sounds and looks remarkably like Jett. It’s one of her strongest performances so far as she captures Jett’s fierce work ethic and undiluted desire to play music free of gimmicks."
Collider too, weighed in on their opinions of the caliber of acting taking place in The Runaways, saying "Again, the performances are fantastic across the board, and Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning really impressed me with their portrayals of these still-living rock stars."
As the reviews continue to roll in, no doubt the praise will continue to seep alongside them. Clearly, Kristen Stewart has proven herself as a talented actress after this weekend's Stewdance Festival.

Kristen Stewart on playing Joan Jett vs. Twilight’s Bella
When it comes down to playing a beloved real life character versus a beloved fictional one, Kristen Stewart declares herself Team Joan over Team Bella. Stewart, who plays Joan Jett in the new biopic “The Runaways,” says she felt a tremendous personal responsibility to capture Jett’s essence.
“Bella’s effect on the world wasn’t necessarily as great as Joan’s, obviously, and I never got to meet Bella,” Stewart said. “It’s completely different. All these people who have an investments in these women, that’s awesome…but when it becomes personal and it’s my responsibility to not destroy, like, what people are going to take from the most important part of my friend’s life… Joan has become really, a really big part. She’s awesome and I really love her. If we hadn’t told the story right, people don’t know the Runaways in our generation. Because they’re going to see them through us, it’s a much different experience than making an original fictional story.”
Speaking of Bella, even though she hasn’t seen “Eclipse,” the third installment of “Twilight” yet, Stewart gives high marks to director David Slade’s style on the film, which will come out this summer. “He’s a very technical director. Very. Very. He’s very thoughtful. I think it’s going to be cool for ‘Twilight,’ like, shotwise. He’s very conceptual. He really, really takes a lot of time to…you’re not going to see, like, a bunch of Steadicam. It’s very deliberate, which is very cool. It gives you more time to think about what you’re doing. I don’t know [the tone] because I haven’t seen the movie.”
On “The Runaways,” Stewart felt an instant connection to Jett, in part because they both experienced stardom from an early age. “We have been professional [from] a young age, which is hard, but her [in] such a different way,” said Stewart during a press roundtable at Sundance for “The Runaways.” “Like the biggest adversity I face is bloggers and [Jett] had people throwing bottles in her face and saying, like, ‘Sit down, you ugly loudmouth.’ To see how assured she is now and that she wasn’t always like that and it actually took a lot… And what she has now is a really, really, really thick armor and you see that happen in the movie. That’s what I wanted to do…She’s a survivor and at the same time she demands to live her life the way she’d like to. She’s a very smart inspiring person.”
Stewart played guitar before filming started, but wasn’t prepared for the rigors of playing in the movie. “We all had two weeks that we had band practice where all of the girls came in. They played the songs that we recorded, I think there was five or six that we had to have done. They played them over a speaker, but then we were like trying to play as a band to it. It’s exhausting, especially with the guitar. I would be exhausted at the end of a rehearsal.. I’d be like, ‘Oh my shoulder is killing me.” So it’s no surprise that even though she sings very capably in the film, Stewart said she had no plans to record her own album.

Kristen Stewart at the Sundance Film Festival for 'Welcome to the Rileys'
Yesterday, for Kristen Stewart, the Sundance Film Festival really began.
As the Los Angeles Times put it, "By some strange cosmic fluke, Kristen Stewart portrays a 16-year-old runaway in both of the movies in which she appears at this year’s Sundance Film Festival."
Yesterday, she participated in photo ops for The Runaways and then attended the premiere for Welcome To The Rileys. Today, she'll attend the premiere for The Runaways.
The reviews and buzz on Welcome To The Rileys are very positive, thus far.
For instance, Variety confirmed what has been a floating sentiment for a while now - "With a cast like this, buyers are sure to be interested." They also remarked on Kristen Stewart's performance in the film, saying "Stewart is the perfect wretch, utterly convincing as a lost girl leveraging her sexuality to compensate for her complete powerlessness."
Her performance in the film was also raved about by Hollywood and Fine, who said "Stewart attacks her role with a clarity and ferocity that is compelling. Stewart brings an emotional nakedness and spirit to the role that is reminiscent of certain male actors when they were young: Sean Penn for one, Leonardo DiCaprio for another." The Hollywood Reporter said that Stewart's was one of three "nice performances" in the picture (co-stars James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo being, of course, the other two).
During press for WTTR, Stewart spoke with E! Online and recounted her preparation for the role. "[I]n preparing for the role I talked to a lot of people, actually like three people in New Orleans, that were strippers that were working in this bar that we ended up using in the movie," she said. "[My character] literally walks around with an open sore."
As USA Today explained, "her character is so obviously wounded, both emotionally and physically, judging by the many bruises on her body, that it quickly becomes awful instead of enticing." "For an actress like Stewart, it would be easy to play it safe. Knock out a romantic comedy or a Nicholas Sparks weepie while the vampire cash keeps rolling in from Twilight sequels. Instead, Stewart is challenging herself, and moviegoers, too."
MTV goes on to say "Kristen Stewart is utterly fearless in "Welcome to the Rileys." You can quibble all you want with her portrayal of a 16-year-old runaway turned stripper and prostitute. But you cannot walk away from a viewing and say the actress doesn't fearlessly expose herself physically and emotionally, and doesn't do so with astonishing maturity and believability."
Sundance, we're not in Forks anymore . . .
After a day of business, Stewart and her The Runaways co-star Dakota Fanning took to the stage in support of - and to join - their friends (and characters in the film) Joan Jett and Cherie Currie during the concert Joan Jett & The Blackhearts had in Park City.

Kristen Stewart is the queen of Sundance with The Runways & Welcome to the Rileys
Kristen Stewart touched down in Park City, Utah last night, ready to promote not just one, but two films at the Sundance Film Festival. Stewart's costar in The Runaways, Dakota Fanning, also arrived in Sundance to promote the movie. Kristen, however, was also there to promote Welcome to the Rileys, in which she plays an underaged prostitute.
Says the Sundance website of Rileys: Trauma transforms us. Years after their teenage daughter’s death, Lois and Doug Riley, an upstanding Indiana couple, are frozen by estranging grief. She isolates herself in their immaculate suburban home. He philanders with a local waitress, anesthetizing pain with easy passion. When he loses his mistress to cancer, Doug, beset by further heartache, escapes to New Orleans on a business trip. Compelled by urgencies he doesn’t understand, he insinuates himself into the life of an underage hooker, becoming her platonic guardian. Meanwhile, Lois summons all of her remaining force to overcome agoraphobia and venture south to reclaim her marriage.
Exacting performances from three consummate actors (James Gandolfini, Melissa Leo, and Kristen Stewart) infuse this emotionally raw, gently humorous drama with penetrating humanity. Director Jake Scott’s uncompromising film refuses to flinch from difficult moments or tie neat bows around its characters. Instead, it reveals how taking risks and leaving our comfort zone can become a profound path to healing the human heart.
Check out Kristen with her Welcome to the Rileys costars in the slideshow below, which also contains a few photos of Kristen and Dakota trekking through the Park City snow, and posing with their Runaways director, Floria Sigismondi. The Runways doesn't premiere until tomorrow, so that's when the girls will go out. Are you looking forward to seeing Kristen's new movies?
Kristen Stewart: Pole Dancing Hurts!
Welcome to the Rileys was a real pain for Kristen Stewart — literally.
In the much buzzed about indie flick, she plays a 16-year-old stripper who is taken in by a married man, played by James Gandolfini...
"I did some pole dancing," Stewart told me Saturday at the movie's premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. "I got bruises all over my legs. I tore myself up doing it. It sucked."
Oddly enough, she kinda enjoyed it. "The more I saw it, the more I wanted it," Stewart said. "It was like a weird self-hating kind of thing."
Yikes!
Director Jake Scott said it was pretty much a closed set when Stewart had to do her dancing scenes.
"She was terrified," Scott said. "The strip club we shot in was really a club, and it really was that dirty and really that tough. But she killed it."
Scott also hooked Stewart up with a professional stripper. "She's like one of the best in the business," he said. "So she was really reliable and didn't do drugs or anything like that, but she was able to introduce Kristen to girls that were. She was able to put her in that world."
But if you're expecting Showgirls moves from Stewart, you can forget about it. "This is not about a stripper," Scott said. "It's about a damaged child."
Stewart said, "The cool thing about my character is she is not sultry and she is not sexy."

Exclusive Audio: Melissa Leo speaks to ScottFeinberg about working with Kristen Stewart in Welcome to the Rileys
On November 13, 2008, the actress Melissa Leo joined me at Brandeis University for a Q&A following a screening of her film “Frozen River,” for which she would go on to receive an Academy Award nomination for best actress. A few minutes into the conversation, I asked Melissa to explain what “Method acting” is all about for those who might not know, and she elected to cite as an example the work of Kristen Stewart in ”Welcome to the Rileys,” a Jake Scott film that she, Stewart, and James Gandolfini had just finished shooting in New Orleans.
Since “Rileys” is having its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival as I type, I felt that now was as appropriate a time as any to share Melissa’s thoughts:
CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO MELISSA TALK ABOUT KRISTEN STEWART!
They — along with Stewart’s performance in “Adventureland” and Julianne Moore’s kind words about her abilities as an actress — have really opened my eyes to the fact that Kristen is much more than just another pretty face.

Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner & Anna Kendrick For ‘Hope For Haiti Now’
Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Anna Kendrick all took part in the Hope for Haiti Now Telethon Friday night. Rob who appeared from London shared a story of a young girl in Haiti who was buried under the rubble of the university for nearly 6 days. Taylor and Anna did their part by answering phones and taking donations from viewers.
Robert Pattinson's speech:
“Underneath a flattened university, Maxine Fallon waited. She was crouched in a fetal position and could barely move. In the darkness and during the hectic sounds of the day, through the pain, the hunger and thrist, she prayed that someone would find her. And on the sixth day her prayers were answered, she was found because of a text message from the rubble sent rescuers to her side. Unlike any other event in history, our world has been connected to this tragedy because of technology. Twitter updates, Facebook pages with pictures of the missing and text messages for help. This technology is working right now to connect us, too. At hopeforhaitinow.org, you can donate and you can instantly interact with people in Haiti and anywhere in the globe. Join with those watching and see what they’re saying about something we all care deeply about — helping the Haitian people get back on their feet. Please go to hopeforhaitinow.org. Thank you.”
In case you missed it, you can still donate at HopeForNow. It’s not too late!!
Please help and donate!

Kristen Stewart stayed covered this afternoon when she arrived at the airport in Park City, UT, on a private jet. She's headed to the Sundance Film Festival to support two of her non-Twilight projects, Welcome to the Rileys and The Runaways. Kristen has been chilling out over the last few weeks since her New Year's trip to England to see Robert Pattinson, who's was also spotted today on his way film an appearance for George Clooney's Hope for Haiti telethon with a new beard you guys aren't too sure about. KStew's first official Sundance appearance at Joan Jett & The Blackhearts show
The Sundance Film Festival will see the premiere on Sunday of the Joan Jett biopic The Runaways, starring “New Moon” mates Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning.
There has been buzz that Stewart and Fanning will also attend Jett’s performance with The Blackhearts on Saturday night at Harry O’s in Park City, Utah. Gossip Cop can confirm that Stewart does plan to be there, as does Fanning.
But another rumor cropping up has Robert Pattinson hitting Sundance for the premiere of Stewart’s new film, and Gossip Cop can report that there is not truth to that speculation.
Remember, though, that Pattinson will be participating tonight in an awfully good cause – the “Hope for Haiti” telethon, as we first noted earlier this week.
We’ll have updates on the action in Park City as the film festival continues…

New Moon Stars meet up to donate to ‘Teens for Jeans’
Here are a couple of really cute photos of Kellan Lutz and Tinsel Korey that she posted to her Twitter. They met up at Aeropostale in Westside Pavilion in West LA to donate jeans for the “Teens for Jeans” campaign from DoSomething.org.
In support of its third annual “Teens for Jeans” initiative with teen not-for-profit DoSomething.org, NYC-based teen retailer Aeropostale, Inc. announced it will be matching the first 100,000 pairs donated with brand new jeans to be delivered to the victims of the Haiti earthquake. And if you donate you have a chance to win a jeans signed by Kellan. Below is also a video of Ashley Greene and Justin Long supporting it.
Starting Tuesday, January 19th until Sunday, February 14th, people are encouraged to bring in any brand of their gently worn jeans to any Aeropostale store in the U.S. and Canada. Aeropostale, Inc. and DoSomething.org will make sure the jeans are donated teens in Haiti as well as to one of the 600 local youth shelters that have been selected as partners. As an extra incentive for those who donate, Aeropostale will give an additional 25% off a new pair of jeans, though no purchase is necessary. Donors will also have the chance to win signed jeans from Kellan Lutz, Kelly Clarkson, cast members of 90210, Glee, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and many more of today’s young stars.
In addition to getting customers involved in stores, Aeropostale, Inc. and DoSomething.org are encouraging teenagers in their local high schools and colleges to coordinate “Teens for Jeans” school drives. Students who collect more than 500 pairs of jeans will receive a banner for their school, recognition on the DoSomething.org and Aeropostale websites and the chance to win a pizza party for their entire class.

New Moon DVD distribution being done differently than Twilight
Last year, the Twilight DVD sold over three million copies in its very first day on the market, making it among the "Top Five Best First Day Releases in Two Years."
Within a few weeks, the film became the number one selling DVD of the year.
According to Home Media Magazine, total sales for the year reached over nine million, and the distribution studio, Summit Entertainment, expects that the numbers will be similar for The Twilight Saga: New Moon's DVD (due March 20th).
"We are looking at the 9.2 million in Twilight sales as our fan base, and that is how we are planning around New Moon," the company's home entertainment president, Steve Nickerson, told the publication.
Though the overall expectations and plans for distribution remain the same, there are a few, more than minor details being shifted.
For one, Home Media Magazine continues, there will not be a one-disc DVD version of New Moon available for commercial sale. "The studio will bow a single-DVD version of New Moon that will include few bonus features, but just into the rental channel." Additionally, there will not be various versions offered to the differing vendors like there was last year.
However, the studio is banking on a wider demographic - meaning more men (cough) - for their Blu-Ray disc sales.
Last year, just 3% of Twilight sales were Blu-ray, noted Nickerson. That is well below the 12% to 15% average Blu-ray sales portion for many 2009 new releases. But Summit projects that interest will rise in 2010 for New Moon in high-def.
“Because of the female-driven nature of the franchise, the amount of Blu-ray sales was less significant on Twilight than it was for other films of other genres,” Nickerson said. “And that will still be the case this year [for New Moon]. But Blu-ray has really grown in the last year. It’s big enough that all retailers want to be able to sell the product. Look at all the circulars, every title cover shot now shows the Blu-ray version.”
Others speculate that the reason there were low sales numbers for the high definition version of Twilight last year was because it wasn't available in all venues. Says Blu-Ray.com, "it can be argued that Wal-Mart and Amazon initially not carrying the BD didn't help either."
One way or the other, things are indeed a-changing for the home media distribution of this franchise. Note that the one-disc version has been seen for sale in other countries, including the U.K..
Got any thoughts on this?

Rocker Stew: New clip from 'The Runaways'
And the excitement continues! Here’s a new clip from 'The Runaways'. Thanks to KStewartFans for the heads up!
The Runaways follows two friends, Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), as they rise from rebellious Southern California kids to rock stars of the now legendary group that paved the way for future generations of girl bands. They fall under the Svengali-like influence of rock impresario Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), who turns the group into an outrageous success and a family of misfits. With its tough-chick image and raw talent, the band quickly earns a name for itself-and so do its two leads: Joan is the band’s pure rock’ n’ roll heart, while Cherie, with her Bowie-Bardot looks, is the sex kitten.
Apparition will open THE RUNAWAYS in over 1400 theaters on March 19. The music-fueled story of the ground-breaking, all girl, teenage rock band of the 1970s stars Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Danielle Riley Keough, Scout Taylor-Compton (TV’s “Arrested Development”), and Michael Shannon. The film marks the first theatrical collaboration between Apparition and River Road Entertainment. Executive Produced by Joan Jett and Produced by River Road and Linson Entertainment, THE RUNAWAYS will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival Sunday, January 24.

Sundance director defends including two of Kristen Stewart's films
Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper recently spoke out in defense of his decision to include two of Kristen Stewart's film on this year's festival schedule.
Those films, of course, are Welcome To The Rileys and The Runaways.
In Rileys, Stewart portrays a young woman (who happens to be a stripper), and she is joined on the cast by The Sopranos alum James Gandolfini and her former The Cake Eaters co-star Melissa Leo.
In The Runaways, you already know, Stewart portrays the one and only Joan Jett, and she is joined on the cast by her New Moon and Eclipse co-star Dakota Fanning.
Clearly, both roles are of night and day difference (almost literally) from Stewart's work in Twilight, but according to the Toronto Sun, "Stewart’s inclusion has raised some hackles among cinephiles."
Cooper, however, isn't budging. Said he, "She’s putting her money where her mouth is . . . I think it’s great. These are tough parts." Keepin' it classy, Mr. Cooper. Nicely done.

Robert Pattinson Signs On For Haiti Relief Telethon
Several days ago Gossip Cop told you Robert Pattinson had not yet been approached to participate in this Friday’s “Hope for Haiti” telethon, but a source close to the actor said, “I’m sure Robert would participate if asked.”
We passed the message along to organizer George Clooney’s people, and today it appears as though the “Twilight” star is on board.
A source close to Pattinson tells Gossip Cop he’s doing the event, saying, ”We are in the process now of working out his participation from London.”
Gossip Cop is working to confirm other possible additions to the list of participants. We will keep you posted on what we learn.
Haiti obviously needs as much financial support as possible, so the more big names to lend a hand, the better.
UPDATE – 2:00PM –
Many of you asked whether Kristen Stewart will be part of the “Hope for Haiti” event. Gossip Cop has learned that Stewart would love to be involved, but will be occupied at the Sundance Film Festival and unable to participate.
As always, we’ll keep you posted with developments…

Welcome to the Rileys & The Runaways Have Big Sundance Buzz!
They're wrong » Nobody knows where it comes from. Most people can't even define it. But everybody with a film at the Sundance Film Festival wants it -- even though it's never clear that having it ultimately helps a film become successful.
It's "buzz," that ephemeral energy that surrounds a movie and gets everybody talking about it.
Buzz can sometimes descend on a film before its first screening, then disappear somewhere during the second reel. In other cases, a movie arrives with no buzz -- but a great reception by that first audience will make the buzz land like fairy dust.
And in the age of Twitter and Facebook, when audience reactions can flash around the world in an instant, buzz will rise and fall even faster than before.
Buzz is tricky, because nobody can describe how it works. It's created by an echo chamber of press and industry people, listening to each other about what looks promising.
The thing about the people who make buzz, Sundance's oracle Robert Redford told filmmakers in 1999, is "usually they're wrong and that's the beauty of it for us. ... The unpredictability of this festival, and the diversity of this festival, defies getting a grip on it. ... The films that were unsung before and during the festival are very often the ones that go on to have greater success in the market."
Buzz didn't predict "The Blair Witch Project" in 1999 or "Napoleon Dynamite" in 2004.
It didn't foresee Carey Mulligan in "An Education," Mo'Nique and Gabourey Sidibe in "Precious" (then called "Push") or the environmental commandos of "The Cove" -- all of which entered the 2009 Sundance Film Festival as unknowns but left as the most buzzworthy movies of all. So trying to predict the buzzworthy films of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival is a bit of a fool's errand. As the immortal Fats Waller said, "One never knows, do one?" But let's try anyway. Here, based on pedigree and a few hunches, are some movies that will enter Sundance '10 with buzz attached. Whether they leave the same way is for the audiences to decide.
"Welcome to the Rileys" » Among U.S. Dramatic competition films, this one has the most heat because of its cast: "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart, James Gandolfini ("The Sopranos") and Melissa Leo (an Oscar nominee for the Sundance '08 entry "Frozen River").
"The Runaways" » Another target-rich environment for the paparazzi, this premiere not only stars Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, but a sexed-up Dakota Fanning as fellow rocker Cherie Curie.
