Eclipse earns $30 million in midnight showing

The first box office numbers from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are in from the midnight showing last night, and they are record-breaking.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, according to GossipCop and Entertainment Weekly, has brought in a record $30 million in midnight showing tickets, beating the prior record set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon of $26.27 million.

This is the second record set by Eclipse, and it's only just been released in the United States last night (the first being the number of theaters showing the film across the country).

This leaves open the question as to whether Eclipse's total opening day will surpass the record set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon of $72.7 million.

Domestically, Eclipse is expected to beat New Moon's weekend intake, but the opening day totals are the highest in Hollywood history, so it's a tough feat. At this pace, though, it is certainly within reach!

UPDATE: Eclipse also beat the IMAX midnight record, as Larry Richman with PROnetworks points out, with "$1M at 192 locations beating the recordholder Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with $959K."

Kristen Stewart appears on David Letterman

Kristen Stewart is a mass of class, and that fact has never been clearer than tonight after she appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman to try and promote The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

From the very start, the interview was awkward, and while Kristen Stewart looked beautiful (bringing another fire-and-ice-themed one-armed number) with her brand new 'do, David Letterman didn't seem to know much about the Twilight series at all. So, Kristen Stewart was stuck answering lame questions like "How many have there been?" and "You're not a vampire yourself in the movies?" Still, Kristen Stewart held her own and made a pun or two to keep the conversation flowing.

After squeezing in an account of her promotional travels for Eclipse with co-star Taylor Lautner, David Letterman then went on to bring adorable photographs of Stewart's family's pet wolf-dogs to the fore. Only, somehow the conversation became a political debate about the validity of protectionist efforts for gray wolves (David Letterman's argument being that the destruction of endangered species is acceptable when there's farm cattle in question - so as not to "eradicate the cattle industry" - and Kristen Stewart's being that perhaps the machine gun slaughtering of said wolves by helicopter is undesirable). For more on this issue, please see here. Gracefully, Kristen Stewart settled the debate by saying, "I'll take them, they can come and live in my backyard."

She went on to introduce an Eclipse clip - the "doesn't he have a shirt?" clip - and once again purveyed his lack of information (or, seemingly, interest) about the Saga. As one Twitterer put it, "Kristen proves her acting prowess when pretending to think Letterman's jokes are funny."

5 reasons Kristen Stewart is a fashion icon!

How we wish we could share a giggly group hug with Kristen Stewart (photos) and her stylist. Oh and while we’re at it, let’s throw in her hair and makeup team too. While she’s ultra-casual in person (which we love) the girl takes it up a notch - or ten - every time she steps on to the red carpet, and she’s been stone cold killing it during the Eclipse press tour. Well Kristen and Taylor were in Rome, she showed up in a dress that is both sexy and classy, a combo so rarely pulled off in Hollywood.

The lady is quickly becoming a total fashion icon in our eyes. Don’t believe us? Let us count the ways.

1. She dresses for her age - 20 - and keeps her own style in mind, embracing her edgy, rock n’ roll, glam side. But she never, ever skanks out.

2. It never looks like she’s donning some desperate get-up just to get attention (cough, Kim Kardashian, cough) and she lets the clothes speak for themselves, keeping her hair, make up and jewelery to a minimum.

3. She also doesn’t compromise her taste for the red carpet - she’s been wearing her special necklace, for example (we’re sure Rob can tell you all about it) at every photo call and she took her ridiculous Joan Jett hair cut and embraced it, turning it into something cool and distinctly her own.

4. Kristen is risky, but she never so much that she’d grace a bad fashion list, and her shoe choices are consistently both timeless and on-trend.

5. She always - always - looks like herself.

In short: swoon.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Premiere Lights up Los Angeles

For those of you who hail in from Jupiter, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse premiere took place tonight in Westwood, California.

After fans waited for days, after the stars finally got themselves into one place (after whirlwind tours of, literally, the globe) to celebrate this film - inarguably one of the biggest of this year (and, with recent Fandango stats, all time).

The scene from the middle of the black carpet was, to say the least, very bright. One by one, the stars of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and their friends made their way onto a small stage to be introduced to the crowd (most of them at least) before being released onto the long-stretch black carpet for the whole world to see.

Since there was a live internet feed through MySpace, the world had access to attendants like Stephenie Meyer, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner made their way down the carpet.

So, take a look in the gallery links below for photographs from the event plus click HERE & HERE for exclusive video interviews with the cast.

Jimmy Kimmel - Total Eclipse of the Heart

Entertainment Weekly Cover + Kristen & Rob address the 'rape comment'

Kristen Stewart graces the cover of the July 2 issue of Entertainment Weekly. Click below to view the larger version in the gallery – we can’t wait to see the inside spread!

LOS ANGELES, Calif. –
Did Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart confess their rumored romance backstage on “The Oprah Winfrey Show?”

That’s what one online report suggested in the wake of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” stars’ appearance (with co-star Taylor Lautner) on the show in May, but Kristen told Entertainment Weekly how things really went down.

“She glided over to me – and she was strong, by the way, really firm hands – and she said, ‘How are you?’ I said, ‘Good.’ She said, ‘Good. Are you nervous?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I am, but I think I’m OK.’ She said, ‘Good. We’ll have fun,’” Kristen told the mag. “And then she just walked away. And that was the most I talked to her backstage.”

However, Kristen also addressed something she did say – a recent comment in the media comparing paparazzi photographs of herself to rape, which she later apologized for.

“I’m so sensitive about stuff like that. It is the one subject that means a lot to me. I made one movie directly concerning it and I made another one where my character has a horrible history of rape. I talked to a lot of people about it,” Kristen told EW. “I used the wrong word. I should have said ‘violated.’ But I’m young and emotional. It’s just the way it goes sometimes. I probably shouldn’t say this, but I just feel like people got so excited once they saw that it was me. It was like, ‘Sweet! Lets get her!’”

Robert also defended Kristen, taking aim at the “little nerds… on their little blogs” who had attacked the comment.

“None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first – who were doing it specifically to get hits on their websites,” he noted to EW. “That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone. All they need is to get a salacious headline and people click on it, because it’s easy.”

However, Rob added that doing “The Twilight Saga” gave the cast plenty of interview opportunities – and chances to defend each other.

“That’s the only way,” he said of using interview time to dispel rumors. “All of us stick together as well. There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs.”

“You can say so much more than me. It’s insane,” Kristen said, chiming in.

“That’s not true at all,” Rob responded. “When did I say anything [controversial?]”

“The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” is due in theaters June 30.

Lautner also admitted that it has been difficult for him to maintain his physique thoughout filming and promotions for Eclipse and that he and Stewart were both going to be busy between Eclipse's release and Breaking Dawn's production - with Lautner filming Abduction (Pittsburgh) and Stewart filming On The Road (Montreal, New Orleans, and Mexico).

Kristen warms up to romance & fashion

Gallery Link: 06.13.10: Parade Press Junket

Kristen Stewart takes one more step toward immortality in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. She’s put her own stamp on Bella, who’s determined to take a walk down the aisle and spend eternity with her vampire lover Edward, played by Robert Pattinson.

Stewart told Parade.com’s Jeanne Wolf that, just like her character, she’s grown a lot since Twilight first became a cultural phenomenon. But some things haven’t changed.

Honesty is the best policy, no matter what.
“I’ve always said that I’m not ashamed of anything that I say because I’m always being honest, even though you can definitely make mistakes. That’s Bella in a nutshell, so I can completely relate to her. I think it’s a good thing to be proud of who you are, no matter what. Success is always something completely different for different people. I feel like I’ve succeeded if I’m doing something that makes me happy and I’m not lying to anybody. That’s why I feel really good about myself right now.”

So does her romance with RPattz go beyond the screen?
“It’s hard to actually take details of your personal life and apply them in a scene because as much as you can identify with a feeling, you just get muddled. As soon as you start bringing your own stuff in, it’s like, ‘No, that’s not right.’ You’re playing a different person. You have to leave that stuff at the door.”

Kissing him onscreen wasn’t the problem.
“One of the most challenging scenes was probably finally kissing Jacob for the first time. Bella has got such tunnel vision that Edward is the only thing for her. That’s a strange perspective. So when Taylor Lautner and I kissed, it felt like such a different dynamic. I was nervous as hell.”

Kristen Stewart's Access Hollywood interview

Kristen Stewart has a big reason to be excited for “Breaking Dawn.”

SPOILER! “We totally have sex. Finally!” Kristen told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson in LA on Saturday of the final chapter of “The Twilight Saga,” in which Edward (Robert Pattinson) and her character, Bella, consummate their relationship.

“[Edward and Bella] are man and wife now,” Kristen explained further. “They have a kid, and so I guess to get there, you know, that happens.”

However, before that, in “Eclipse” – due June 30 – she got to go from kissing Robert Pattinson to Taylor Lautner, a shift she called “really weird.”

“I was nervous about it,” she said. “It’s like the most unique kiss in the whole series… [Bella] sees that there are clearly two different paths that are maybe not equally as desirable but definitely good, both are great, and she’s never acknowledged that before. She’s always been like, ‘No, Edward’s perfect!’ And so it really freaks her out, and it really freaked me out playing it.”

As for the kiss itself, she said locking lips with Taylor wasn’t so bad.

“You never know whether it’s going to be good until it is,” she said. “A few of [the takes], it was like, ‘OK, cool.’ I mean, that was fine.”

While she may have fun on “The Twilight Saga” sets, she was caught on camera making what appeared to be unhappy faces at the MTV Movie Awards last weekend – which Kristen said was in the editing.

“I feel like the cameras just cut to me just as soon as I stop smiling,” she explained. “I thought most of that stuff was funny. I’m telling you, face transplant! It’s gonna happen pretty soon, I think.”

Kristen added that she’s become more comfortable with fame after two years of the “Twilight Saga” whirlwind.

“I’m very appreciative,” she said, before addressing her facial expressions again. “I really love what I do. It’s just because I got nervous and people are much better at doing this than I am.”

Access Hollywood also sat down with Rob, Taylor and the rest of the stars of Eclipse today for exclusive interviews! They dished on everything from “Breaking Dawn” to Rob’s haircut and Taylor’s workout. Check out the clips!

Kristen Stewart at Eclipse press conference

Today was the big press junket for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in Los Angeles. While studios usually only lets you use audio recorders for press conferences, Summit let the press use video.

During the press conference Kristen Stewart was in great spirits and definitely excited to be talking about Eclipse. Stewart talked about playing Bella, working with David Slade and the close-ups, her career, Bella’s wedding dress, when did she know Breaking Dawn would be two movies and how long is the shoot (6 months), are either Jacob or Edward actually good choices, her next movie On the Road, and so much more. It’s a great interview so take a look.

Note: while Kristen’s answers are crystal clear, the questions might be a bit tough to hear.

David Slade talks Eclipse on IGN

Over the past few weeks, David Slade has begun to do a few interviews on the subject of his newest picture (which is, of course, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).

Today, a new interview with Slade has been revealed by IGN, and he talked about a wide range of interesting tidbits related to the film, not the least of which was his perception of a secondary theme to this leg of the Saga.

"Besides the themes of the love triangle that we know from the Twilight films, there’s another theme – vengeance – and that is a theme that really delivers and pays off in this film," he said. "Edward destroyed Victoria’s love, and she wants vengeance, and vengeance is another word you would use generally with a romantic film, so I guess that sets up for this film having a lot more physical action in it, and one of my goals doing the script was to make Edward scary because he’s a vampire at the end of the day, you know, and there’s a carnivore beneath that surface. So, we went out and we had a lot of sequences that are all in the book geared toward just helping that character out, showing the potential of vampire as a killer. And in the end, particularly in a sequence, I don’t want to spoil it now, but he comes across as dangerous and that was one of the things I wanted to do."

Slade continued by praising Xavier Samuel's performance of the character RIley, which he regarded as one "going through emotional circles of how anxiety was close to rage and how rage was close to frenzy and how going out for your first kill you would be in all of these worlds, and of course this all has to translate to acting, so you get this incredibly frenzied performance."

Check out the rest below.

New Eclipse Clip: Jacob Brings Bella Back Home

A brand new clip from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been revealed by Access Hollywood, and this time, it's the wolfpack coming into view.

The scene is the moment when Bella returns to La Push to hear a few taunts from the wolfpack members about her affect on Jacob's mind (which they can hear when in wolf form) as well as to meet the not-so-satisfiable Leah Clearwater.

In the clip, some of the exact (or near to exact) phrases used by the characters in the book are said.

Additionally, Taylor Lautner closes out the clip with the following remarks about the wolfpack:

Sam is the alpha male, the head honcho. But what’s funny is, I actually explained this to Bella as well, Jacob turned down being alpha male. It’s a lineage thing. Jacob turned that down and handed the throne over to Sam. So Sam now is our alpha male. And then you’ve got Jacob. You’ve got Paul, who’s the hot head – that’s what we like to call him. Jared who is one of the funny guys played by Bronson, and Bronson’s a total jokester, prankster so that’s perfect. And then Embry and Quil who are Jacob’s best friends.

Brand new clip from Eclipse debuted at MTV Movie Awards

As expected, a brand new clip from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse was unveiled tonight at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards (presented by Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner)!

The clip continues from the sneak peek, with Bella, Edward, and Jacob in the parking lot. Jacob reveals that Victoria is still a threat and Bella becomes quite enraged that Edward has lied to her, though he promises it was for her own protection.

Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson win 'Best Kiss' at the MTV Movie Awards

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have just won the award for "Best Kiss" for their kiss in The Twilight Saga: New Moon - the second year in a row that they have won this award at the MTV Movie Awards for a Twilight kiss.

For their acceptance, Robert Pattinson said that there was "stiff competition" this year (one competitor of which was Kristen Stewart herself for her kiss with Dakota Fanning in The Runaways and another of which was Taylor Lautner with Taylor Swift in Valentine's Day).

Still, the two realized that their "almost kiss" at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards wasn't quite enough, so despite the fact that, as Kristen Stewart said, it takes "a lot of smoke and mirrors" to make a kiss look good on screen, they fumbled until they planted one on stage, and Kristen Stewart said that they "really appreciate it!"

I want to say hi to Chris [Weitz] because I haven’t talked to him in a while and he directed the movie, and I really loved him, and how cool is this right? Alright, I’m going to peace out. Thank you so much!"

Congratulations to Kristen Stewart! She beat out Amanda Seyfriend (Dear John), Emma Watson (Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince), Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side), and Zoe Saldana (Avatar).

Kristen Stewart: 'I Made an Enormous Mistake'

As soon as Kristen Stewart's interview with ELLE UK was revealed, things started to get a bit intense.

Her choice of words, in referring to the onslaught of paparazzi attention she receives thanks to her international Twilight fame, of "[t]he photos are so… I feel like I'm looking at someone being raped" were regarded by some rape crisis groups as "regrettable."

Fox News issued the story a few days ago, quoting a representative from Rape and Incest National Network (among others) to issue dismay over the comment: "Portraying a rape survivor in the film ‘Speak’ should have led her to use a more appropriate metaphor to describe the intrusive nature of the paparazzi. Rape is more than an intrusion, it's a violent crime, that causes serious long term mental health effects for victims."

Last night, the buzz began back up again on this issue when it was reported that Stewart would be issuing a public apology for her statement.

A brief, unofficial survey of Twitter responses brought forth a split in Twilight fan reactions, with some fans lauding her boldness and defending the word choice (as well as trending #IsupportKristenStewart)and others saying that they understood the meaning of her statement as well as concerns about the particular term at hand.

Today, Kristen Stewart has issued an apology via People Magazine

"I really made an enormous mistake – clearly and obviously," she told the publication. "And I'm really sorry about my choice of words."

"I've made stupid remarks before, and I've always reasoned: 'Whatever. They can think what they want," she continued. With this particular set of words, though, she indicated that the metaphor could've been more aptly phrased. "'Violated' definitely would have been a better way of expressing the thought."

Though she seems to stand firm on the sentiment of her interview, she did seem to get the sensitive nature of her word choice and concluded, "People thinking that I'm insensitive about this subject rips my guts out. I made a big mistake."

New Eclipse featurette: Introducing Bree Tanner!

Only a few days remain until Stephenie Meyer's novella about the character is released, but you can learn a little more about what to expect from "Bree Tanner" in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse thanks to this exclusive new featurette video called "Introducing Bree Tanner."

In the video, Jodelle Ferland and Stephenie Meyer discuss the film character in depth, revealing some of the nuances of Bree's perspective and Ferland's take on it.

Says Ferland, "Even though she’s on the bad side, she doesn’t really want to be bad, and she’s sort of forced to be." Bad side being, of course, a member of the newborn army.

Of course, even though Bree remains with the newborn army so as to avoid harm to herself, you're well aware of her peculiar fate in the story.

"It’s sad because, even though she’s on the bad side, she’s a victim," Ferland continues. "Bree’s not really given a chance. She wants to be good but nobody gives her a chance. She doesn’t know the rules, and so how can you follow rules that you don’t know? So it’s not her fault, but she gets punished anyway."

Stephenie Meyer also lauds Ferland's work in the movie, saying "she really understands the backstory for Bree that’s not actually in Eclipse. She gets this vulnerability, this person who’s waking up in a new life and who’s confused and suspicious but doesn’t know what to do except follow what she’s been told."

The featurette also presents a few new glimpses at the film, including a bit of dialogue when Bree asks Riley (Xavier Samuel) "What did you do to me?" You can also seem moments of her confusion and thirst in the video

MTV Australia Interviews Kristen & Taylor

Here in Oz to promote their new movie ‘Eclipse’, MTV caught up with the famous twosome to talk rivalries, kissing and six packs!

MTV: Tell us what fans can expect from the third 'Twilight' movie ‘Eclipse?’

Taylor: If you’re a fan of the book, then you’re going to love the movie. We had a lot of fun making it and for me I’d have to say Eclipse was my favourite book and I’d say the movie turned out really well.

Kristen: It definitely steps it up in terms of action. There’s more of it going on, less within the dynamics of the characters and more about the introduction of newborns and the Volturi comeback. There’s more danger, there’s much more at risk.

MTV: Twilight is so huge, what’s it like being involved with such a phenomenon?

K: For me it’s been so different from anything I thought I’d ever be a part of. I’ve always said that I never wanted to do a TV series because it's too long, it’s too much of a commitment, it’s too structured. But it’s actually the coolest thing to be able to follow a character for so long. Because at the end of most movies I feel like I’m ripped away from a project but in this case it’s so indulgent, it’s like I get months to work on just one character and then I get to do it again next year, its really cool.

MTV: How close are you really as a cast?

T: We've spent a lot of time together so we've all grown very close and we're all really good friends. I mean it would be a nightmare doing this series if we didn’t like each other, it would be bad, so thankfully we all get along and have a lot of fun.

MTV: What do you think you’d be doing if you weren’t in ‘Twilight’?

K: I have no idea.

T: I don't know, and I don’t really want to think about it! I’m just thankful it happened in the first place.

MTV: We hear you’ve seen some tourist attractions including Featherdale Wildlife Park since you’ve been in Oz. How was that?

T: It was really good.

K: Yeah it was incredible! You can't believe like a wallaby hops in and you can pick them up and put them in your pouch, it just doesn’t seem real.

T: Number one hit for me was definitely the baby dingos, they were adorable.

MTV: If you came across the 'Harry Potter' cast would there be any rivalry between you?

T: (Laughs) I don’t think so, I’m a fan of those movies.

K: I am too. The books came out when I was pretty young so I’ve read them.

T: I haven’t met them though.

K: Neither have I. But Rob is one of them, kind of, and he really likes them, he speaks highly of them.
