Eclipse earns $30 million in midnight showing
The first box office numbers from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse are in from the midnight showing last night, and they are record-breaking.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, according to GossipCop and Entertainment Weekly, has brought in a record $30 million in midnight showing tickets, beating the prior record set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon of $26.27 million.
This is the second record set by Eclipse, and it's only just been released in the United States last night (the first being the number of theaters showing the film across the country).
This leaves open the question as to whether Eclipse's total opening day will surpass the record set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon of $72.7 million.
Domestically, Eclipse is expected to beat New Moon's weekend intake, but the opening day totals are the highest in Hollywood history, so it's a tough feat. At this pace, though, it is certainly within reach!
UPDATE: Eclipse also beat the IMAX midnight record, as Larry Richman with PROnetworks points out, with "$1M at 192 locations beating the recordholder Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with $959K."
